Itinerary
Upon arrival at Sandakan Airport (recommended before 8:00 AM), meet and greet with your local guide and proceed directly to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. At 10:00 AM, head to Platform B to witness the semi-wild orangutans in their forest habitat. Enjoy a guided walk through the lush lowland dipterocarp forest and a 25-minute conservation documentary that offers deeper insight into orangutan rehabilitation efforts.
Next, visit the nearby Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where you’ll learn about the world’s smallest bear and the ongoing work to protect this vulnerable species.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary for either the 2:30 PM or 4:30 PM feeding session. Get up close with these distinctive primates and spot other wildlife such as silvered leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, and possibly even oriental hornbills.
After the excursion, check in to your selected hotel in Sandakan. In the evening, enjoy a hearty steamboat seafood dinner at a local restaurant.

After breakfast, depart on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Gomantong Cave, a centuries-old site famous for its edible bird’s nests. Managed under sustainable harvesting practices and recognized by WWF, the cave offers a rare glimpse into traditional collection methods—especially during the harvesting seasons of February, April, and August.
Stop for lunch at a local eatery before heading toward the Kinabatangan River, renowned for its dense biodiversity. At 4:00 PM, embark on a river cruise in search of Sabah’s iconic wildlife, including the proboscis monkey, hornbills, macaques, and other bird and animal species that inhabit the riverbanks.
After a satisfying dinner at the lodge, return to Sandakan.

Begin your day with breakfast, then set off on a food hunt around town to sample Sandakan’s beloved local delicacies—such as UFO tarts, egg tarts, traditional noodles, dumplings, and fresh seafood.
