Overview
Experience the best of Malaysian Borneo on this 7-day journey through Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Encounter orangutans, explore traditional cultures, cruise tropical rivers, visit Kinabalu Park, and unwind on pristine island beaches.
Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kuching International Airport, you will be met and taken on a 3-hour Kuching City Tour. Discover the rich heritage of this vibrant, multi-ethnic capital as you visit colonial landmarks such as the White Rajah buildings, including the Colonial Law Court, Clock Tower, Charles Brooke Memorial, Old Post Office, and Square Tower. Explore bustling Chinatown, ornate Chinese temples, the iconic Sinpiao, the Astana (former palace of the White Rajahs), a traditional Malay village, and the scenic Kuching Waterfront. After the tour, transfer to your hotel for check-in and leisure time.
After breakfast, depart for Semenggoh Nature Reserve, just 30 minutes away, for the chance to see semi-wild orangutans during their scheduled feeding time and learn about their rehabilitation process. Continue your wildlife experience at Jong’s Crocodile Farm & Mini Zoo, home to over 1,000 crocodiles and a variety of local species such as civets, bear cats, and pythons.
Enjoy lunch before indulging in some local shopping, where you can browse traditional Sarawak handicrafts, including Pua Kumbu, pepper products, bird’s nests, and local snacks. In the evening, relax on the Sarawak River Cruise, passing heritage buildings, Fort Margherita, Malay villages, and more—echoing the historic journey of James Brooke into Sarawak. Dinner is provided before returning to your hotel.
Enjoy a relaxed morning at leisure before lunch. In the afternoon, visit the famous Sarawak Cultural Village, also known as the Living Museum, located at the foot of Mount Santubong. Explore authentic replicas of traditional homes including a Chinese Farmhouse, Malay Stilt House, Melanau Tall House, Penan Hut, and longhouses belonging to the Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu communities. Witness live demonstrations of traditional crafts and enjoy a vibrant cultural show featuring ethnic music and dance. After dinner, return to your hotel.
After breakfast, transfer to Kuching Airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu (recommended arrival by 1:00 PM). Upon arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to Gaya Centre Hotel for check-in. At 1:30 PM, embark on a wetland river safari (approx. 2-hour drive). Upon arrival, enjoy light refreshments in a riverside village before boarding your boat. Keep an eye out for proboscis monkeys, macaques, crocodiles, tree snakes, and tropical birds.
As night falls, enjoy the magical sight of fireflies lighting up the riverbank like natural fairy lights. After a local buffet dinner, return to Kota Kinabalu for the evening.
An early start at 7:30 AM takes you on a scenic 3-hour drive to Poring Hot Springs, where you can relax in open-air sulfuric baths said to offer therapeutic benefits. Take a 20-minute jungle hike to the Treetop Canopy Walkway, suspended 41 meters above the ground, offering breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy.
After lunch, proceed to Kinabalu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the Mountain Garden and Exhibition Hall, home to rare and endemic plant species. Return to the hotel in the evening.
Note: Bring hiking shoes, insect repellent, swimwear, towel, change of clothes, raincoat, and warm clothing.
After breakfast, head to the jetty for a short 15-minute boat ride to Manukan Island, where you can enjoy snorkeling, swimming, or simply relaxing on the white sand beach. Optional water sports are available at your own expense.
Later, transfer to nearby Sapi Island, where a BBQ lunch awaits. Enjoy more leisure time exploring coral reefs or soaking in the tropical sun. In the late afternoon, return to the mainland and transfer to your hotel.
Note: Bring sunblock, swimwear, towel, change of clothes, and personal toiletries.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and some free time for last-minute shopping or relaxation. When ready, transfer to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) for your onward flight, bringing your Borneo adventure to a close.
