Overview
Take on the challenge of Mount Kinabalu with a 3-day climb, including an overnight stay at Laban Rata and a sunrise summit at 4,095.2 meters above sea level.
Itinerary
Begin your journey with a 9:30 AM hotel pick-up in Kota Kinabalu, then enjoy a scenic 2-hour drive through the rolling hills and lush countryside of Sabah. Upon arrival at your mountain lodge near Kinabalu Park, check in and relax before a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, set off on a short journey to Poring Hot Springs, a popular destination known for its Japanese-style open-air hot baths. Soak in the therapeutic sulphur-rich waters, believed to help ease muscle tension and improve circulation.
For the adventurous, take a 20-minute jungle walk to the Treetop Canopy Walkway, suspended 41 metres above the ground and extending 157 metres in length. It’s an unforgettable way to experience the rainforest from above.
Return to your lodge in the late afternoon. Spend the evening at your leisure, followed by dinner and an overnight stay in the cool highland air.
After breakfast, check out at 8:00 AM and head to Kinabalu Park Headquarters, where you'll register for the climb and meet your certified Mountain Guide. Collect your packed lunch and transfer to Timpohon Gate (1,866m)—the official starting point of the Mount Kinabalu trek.
Begin your 4 to 6-hour hike to Panalaban Base Camp (Laban Rata), ascending through misty rainforest and mossy trails. There are six designated shelters along the route where you can rest and refill your water.
Arrive at Laban Rata Resthouse, located at around 11,000 feet (3,300m). Check into your dormitory-style accommodation, unwind, and enjoy a hot dinner with panoramic mountain views. Overnight at the resthouse as you prepare for the summit attempt.
At 2:30 AM, begin your final ascent to Low’s Peak (4,095.2m), guided by torchlight under a blanket of stars. This 3 to 4-hour climb takes you across rugged granite trails to reach the highest point in Malaysia, just in time for a breathtaking sunrise over Borneo’s dramatic mountain range.
After taking in the view and snapping summit photos, descend to Laban Rata for breakfast. Check out and continue your descent to Timpohon Gate, where your transport awaits.
Back at Kinabalu Park HQ, receive your Certificate of Achievement. Before returning to the city, enjoy a well-earned high tea at a local restaurant. Arrive back in Kota Kinabalu by late afternoon, marking the end of your unforgettable adventure.
